From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A boathouse (or boat house) is a building especially designed for the storage of boats, normally smaller craft for sports or leisure use. These are typically located on open water, such as on a river. Often the boats stored are rowing boats. Other boats such as punts or small motor boats may also be stored. Sometimes, a boathouse may be the headquarters of a boat club or rowing club. It may also include a restaurant, bar,and other leisure facilities, perhaps for members of an associated club. Boathouses are also sometimes modified to include living quarters for people, or the whole structure may be used as temporary or permanent housing. In Scandinavia, the boathouse is known as a naust, a word deriving from Old Norse naverstað. These were typically built with stone walls and timber roofs and would be either open to the sea or provided with sturdy doors. The floors would be a simple continuation of the beach sand or rock, or they might be dug down to permit a boat to sail into the boathouse. Edinburgh Canal Society boathouse on the Union Canal. GNU Free Documentation License What is the movie where there is an affair and a man wires a boathouse for the woman to die? Q. I'm really trying to think of it! I think it involved two women and a man. She thinks it might be wired so she doesn't enter the little boat house but it ends up blowing up and she dies. HELP! Asked by Emily - Fri Dec 18 09:02:43 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The plot reminds me of Body Heat (1981) -- Starring William Hurt and Kathleen Turner. However, it's Turner who wires the boat house to explode. She stages it so her "look-a-like girlfriend" who's blackmailing her will die in the explosion and everyone will think that she, herself, died. She learned how to rig a bomb from Mickey Rourke's character. Rourke warns Hurt so when he tries to enter the boat house, he looks first and sees the trigger wire. William Hurt ... The website looks great but when you get here your looking at a faded out run down boat shed with outdoor toilets surrounded by mounds of dredged out swamp. Your promised absolute water frontage on a beautiful deck but you get a deck with no water and swamp. The so called Private Jetty is public and people walk pass peering into your window so the blinds need to be closed all day, the place is a dump , anyone been there? Asked by birks boathouse goolwa - Tue Aug 26 23:51:49 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. No I haven't but I do walk past it (and no I don't peer in the windows). The 'swamp' is the Murray River which is in drought at the moment and this is what all the calls from the Goolwa and Lakes people is about that there is not enough water being released into the Murray River and it is affecting businesses like Birks who rely on tourism.
