what are the typical dimensions of loading docks in a warehouse because I am designing a floor plan?
Q. I want to know the typical dimensions of loading docks in a warehouse. I also want to know on a floor plan how thick should the walls be on the plan.
Asked by wenskya - Wed Oct 22 11:37:15 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Loading docks are often divided into bays that accommodate one or more trucks and are sized for the largest expected truck, usually a semi. How many bays depends on how many trucks you expect to be loading and unloading at the same time, you decide. Some docks are hundreds of feet long. The walls only have to be thick enough to support the roof. If you are using steel, not very thick at all.

Was Atlantis the inspiration for the docks at Carthage?
Q. The Phoenicians were descended from the mysterious "Sea Peoples". Don't you think from the way Plato described the waterways and harbours of Atlantis, that it sounds VERY similar to the concentric ring construction of the harbour at the Phoenician city of Carthage? Was Carthage built from memories of the Atlantean docks and waterways? Or did Carthage inspire Plato?
Asked by toffee_rapper - Mon Mar 3 18:25:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Phonicians were seafaring Semites from the region now occupied by Lebanon. The "mysterious" Peoples of the Seas were from the Mediterranean Islands, probably remmants of the Cretan culture with Myceneans and Achaeans amongst them. Atlantis is a legend, probably created by Plato, thus posterior to the Phoenicians. All very romantic and fascinating but the Phoenicians and their succesors, the Carthaginians, had enough genius in them to need to be inspired by "ancient" cultures. So, if Plato was trying to describe a powerful maritime empire, Carthage was a good source of how it could be.

When an ipod battery is worn out, can I still use power adapter and docks to power it?
Q. When my ipods battery wont hold its charge anymore in the future, will I still be able to use the docks and car chargers to power the ipod and still use it while its connected to a power source like the wall socket or car ciggaratte charger?
Asked by photek - Sat Nov 24 00:14:55 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It takes many charges to lose its abiltiy to charge. and it will still charge, so yes. and by the time your battery runs out for good they will have better ipods for less than what you paid for yours. fyi: its takes like 1000 charges for it to lose like 10% of its power capacity

Q. I am buying four wireless remotes for the Wii, we are a family of six. Should I also buy two of the wireless charging docks? We are new to Wii and don't know what accessories are a "must" have, and what we really don't need right away. Any suggestions??

A. Charging docks aren't really necesarry, but one thing i would get would be a glove for the remotes, because if they hit the tv with them on It wont hurt the tv as much. I would get the thicker ones just for safety

Is tehre a way I can get my passport stamped by an nation if my cruise ship docks for a day?
Q. I am planning on going on a cruise, and will be docking in St. Maarten and some other islands nearby. I have been told that when your ship docks, immigration on each island won't stamp or even check your passport. However, I like to collect different passport stamps, and want to know if there is a way I can get my passport stamped if I made a quick visit to the immigration office at each dock? Has anyone ever done this? Any feedback would be truly appreciated.
Asked by The "L" Word - Tue Mar 20 00:21:03 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The ship does not confiscate your passport. Just look for customs. They will stamp it for you.

How many loading docks should my company warehouse have?
Q. I have a technical design problem related to a new warehouse facility that my company is buidling. The entire facility is about 30,000 sq.m. split into 6 equal compartments of about 5,000 sq.m. each. Both ends of the compartments are about 40m in length and I need to find out what is the optimal number of loading docks per compartment at each end; all these without going into the details of materials flow etc. Basically, is there some industry standard that allows me to determine the right number of loading docks that I should spread across this 40m of warehouse space per compartment?

my turtles keeps eating or biting the floating dock, how do I get them to stop eating the docks? ?
Q. I think the floating docks are made from compressed styrofoam and I don't want my turtles to die from eating it.
Asked by mrsmamamehya - Thu Sep 18 15:32:14 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This question has been asked before. Your turtles are eating the dock, because they don't have enough calcium and minerals in the diet and assume the dock is made up of rock-or something including calcium... hopefully you have cuttlebones in your tank and are feeding a diet with a calcium supplement+vitamin supplement 2x weekly, otherwise if you are not, there is your answer! The turtles are seeking alternate calcium sources. Also hopefully you have plants( anachris, duckweed, water lilies, water lettuce) because turtles do love munching on those plants!=) Feed a good diet, like the one i list, and also extremely important, have adequate lighting and heating so your turtles do not get sick! The basking temps should be in the 95-100F region, [cont.]

can i use a floating mattress or possibly even a canoe in the greenland docks in london?
Q. i'm moving into a house overlooking the greenland docks in london and i am wondering if there would be any legal issues around floating on a blowup mattress or maybe even taking a canoe out onto the greenland docks, or if the only issue is that it's plain stupid. also, if it is legal, is there a legal blood alcohol level limit like when you're driving or does anything go?
Asked by captainballs - Wed Nov 26 15:57:05 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No problem over a canoe or other craft but NOT a blow up mattress which is not suitable for floating around where other craft may be navigating and which all too easily can turn over and dump you in the water. The Thames is a lot cleaner than it was but I am not sure I would wish to involuntarily swim in it. With any craft you will need a license from the authority who controls navigation either Port of London Authority or British Waterways.

How can I kill docks in my garden??
Q. Can I cut the tops off the dock, poke down into the root and pour in a vinegar mixture or boiling water, they are growing in the borders and garden? What about salt water or even a bleach mixture on the patio where they are growing out?? I would not use bleach on the garden itself as I know its toxic but on the patio it might work??? Any clues would be great, im trying to avoid the digging them up as there are so many or having to buy anything to treat them!! Many thanks
Asked by Faerynuff - Sun Jun 1 09:54:26 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. i also have a major problem with dock in my yard, flowerbeds, ect. i have been doing a lot of research on the net and as far as i can tell, just cutting them off won't do it. these buggers are persistant! round-up will work on dock that is growing in areas where you might want plants or grass to grow. you want to apply to the dock on a hot, windless day, so it can soak in and it won't blow onto flowers or grass. as for the dock on the patio, round-up will work, but if you don't want anything growing there ever, the salt would be the best. it's cheaper than round-up, and you don't have to worry about grasses or anything growing there for a long, long time.

A. You did not say what city, country, etc, but I guess you mean this dock in Vancouver, Canada: The bottom of the page has some useful information. The pier is not near city center and you would need a taxi or tour to go sightsee. My suggestion is just do a GOOGLE maps search of Ogden Point and look at the streets and locations of attractions that you may want to see.

Does Philadelphia have apartment complexes and docks?
Q. I wanted the setting to happen somewhere where they had apartment complexes, the 1 with elevators (or are those condos?) and a near by dock like where you walk over a lake or pond on a dock. Like that. Is Philadelphia the right place? I kinda wanted them near a beach. If not, what other place would be good?
Asked by Corn - Mon Sep 28 16:50:42 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There really isn't any "beach" in Philly, but there is a waterfront on the Delaware River. There are some condos on the river, but they're pricey and I don't know if any of them are rentals or not. With the market the way it is, especially for condos in Philly, I'd bet you'd be able to find SOMEONE who's renting out one of those units. You're still about 60 miles from the NJ Shore, where the real beaches are though.

does anyone know how to kill nettlles and docks in horse pasture?
Q. in my horse paddock ive got lots of nettles docks rubbish etc used a strimmer mowed chopped but it just keeps coming back each year need something that safe for animals but ihaven't got a spraying licence has anyone ideas anyone ?
Asked by pinkfairy - Wed Jun 10 10:34:51 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Dockings and nettles are notoriously difficult to get rid of and it may well take years to completely eradicate them, if you are successful. We use a spray called pastor which kills thistles, docks, nettles and chickweed but not the grass. You don't need a license to use it but animals must be kept off the sprayed area for about 3 weeks. The only way for you to maybe achieve this would be to fence off areas of your field, spray, wait 3 weeks then repeat in another area and so on.

What is firewire drive docks used for?
Q. Can I buy three docks and connect my three older computers internal hard disk and connect all three disks to my primary computer? Will it run on the operating system on my primary computer, or will I need to reinstall Windows XP for the three that I connected to my primary computer?
Asked by RB - Thu Oct 1 12:28:26 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can connect your hard disk to the FireWire drive dock and then plug that into your computer. That way, you don't have to put a hard disk in your computer in order to use it, you can just put it in the dock. I don't know how many FireWire ports you have, but if you want to connect all three than you need three ports or you'll have to buy a hub. I'm not sure wat you want to to with those disks eventually or what kind of disks they are so it's hard to say if it works. Besides, this is a very pricey solution. Maybe it's for the best if you copy the data on your old hard drives to a new one, it's much cheaper. You don't have to reinstall XP, but you should check if you have SATA drives or IDE before you buy a dock. If the old pc still… [cont.]
